Traditionally gas powered, pocket bikes are becoming increasingly popular as a result of the introduction of electric pocket bikes. They are changing the way pocket bikes are being viewed and against common misconception, the speed and power provided by an electric engine rivals that of traditional pocket bikes.

Originally developed in Japan, these bikes became popular for riders who enjoy performing tricks as well as for racing. It very quickly spread to Europe and the United States due to the safety improvements over traditional pocket bikes which have had a bad reputation for risks and noise pollution.

The engine is quiet and provides a smooth ride on an electric motor that can hold up to 700 watts of power. The differentiation from traditional gas engines allows manufacturers to enter a market that has been basically untapped. It is environmentally friendly and doesn't generate the level of noise pollution as the gas version.

All the fun and excitement of riding a pocket bike isn't tarnished by the improved safety features in the new electric model. There is an expectation for thrill and that isn't lost in any way. This makes for a new toy available for the younger population as parents are less reluctant once they learn of the improvements made.

The electric pocket bikes usually come with the necessary safety equipment including knee and elbow pads and a helmet. Also, both front and rear disk brakes are vented and can be adjusted by using the brake caliper to help prevent any wear that might damage the brake pads.

Many models are designed with airtight seals inside the tires to reduce the risk of flatting. This allows the bike to maintain its weight even with very low tire pressure and reduces the severity of any accident that results from flatting.

As a way of mitigating theft, the ignition of the bike is covered and locked to keep someone from stealing the bike too easily. And any amount of protection is good since these bikes will definitely get people's attention. The wide selection of color and special attention to detail in the design gives the bike that sexy sporty edge.

Many parents will find the safety offered by electric pocket bikes a relief that the child can get the toy he or she wants without compromising too much safety. This is good for the racing industry as it gets children practicing at a young age which they can then upgrade to more powerful pocket bikes or standard bikes when they get old enough.
